Soccer star, Dani Alves, ordered to remain in Spanish prison after alleged rape

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – It was the end of the year. People were attending New Year’s parties and feeling liberated after the topsy-turvy years of the Covid pandemic. Things with Dani Alves, may have gotten out of hand though.

Dani Alves, the Brazilian soccer star who played for Barcelona, UNAM in Mexico, and the Brazilian national team was arrested in Barcelona on January 20, 2023 after a women accused Alves of raping her in a Barcelona nightclub on December 30, 2022.

Despite not having a concrete court date, the Spanish court denied Alves bail ruling that “Alves was a flight risk and that he must stay in jail during the investigation.”

In a statement, Alves’ defense team said, “Daniel Alves remains as innocent as he was before this ruling, his desire to leave Spain and elude the process did not, and does not, exist.”

Brazil does not extradite their own citizens when they are sentenced in other countries for crimes of which they are found guilty.

When the alleged rape occurred, Alves supposedly “slapped” and “raped” the women in the bathroom of the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona. The woman further alleges that Alves did not use a condom when the rape happened. She said she had to undergo medical treatment for the prevention of STDs and is currently undergoing therapy to deal with the trauma.
