SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Late last week Sam Altman, one of the co-founders and C.E.O. of Open AI, the company that created ChatGPT, was fired.
The Board of Directors reportedly fired Altman because he was not communicating with them.
Recently, Altman acquired funding for the company from outside sources. Microsoft invested billions in the start-up as the race to control AI heated-up.
Altman, once considered the poster-boy for Silicon Valley and high tech, has travelled the world promoting ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence. Altman once answered questions before US politicians in Washington, D.C. about the perils of the unknown technology.
While in Washington, Altman asked the government to set guidelines for the emerging technology that, like social media in the early days, had until recently otherwise remained unregulated.
Almost two weeks ago, the Screen Actors Guild, reached an agreement with actors regarding the use of their likenesses by AI.
Earlier this morning, Microsoft announced they hired Altman to lead a new division of the AI project.
At times, Elon Musk warns about the dangers or AI stating that, “AI could be the end of humanity,” and that AI, “has the potential of civilization destruction.”
Despite these warnings, Musk was an early investor and founder of Open AI. Musk has also created a company called, Neuralink. Neuralink hopes to develop a chip that can be placed in the human brain. With the help of AI, the chip will be able to help people with disabilities become mobile and engage in “normal” activities.
Former workers at Nueralink have criticized Musk in his pursuit to see humans achieve a symbiosis with artificial intelligence. They question how many human brains will have to be damaged in order for Musk to achieve his goal.
Yesterday, Javier Milei, was elected president in Argentina. Milei is new to politics. Before winning the election, Milei was something of a TV personality in the financially challenged country.
Like former President Donald Trump and Brazil’s, Jair Bolsonaro, Milei used his election pulpit to claim election fraud, even before the election was held.
Often seen with a chainsaw, Milei promised the disillusioned Argentines that he would, “slash the size of the government and the corrupt Argentine state.” This is his version of “draining the swamp.”
Milei said that he would replace the Argentine peso with the U.S. dollar.
Interestingly, Milei has claimed that he communicates with his dead dog through a spiritual medium, CNN reports.
