SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Earlier this week, the Manhattan district attorney’s office presented evidence to a grand jury concerning the possibility that former U.S. President Donald J. Trump paid hush money to a former porn star.
For almost seven years, the case of Trump and former porn star, Stormy Daniels, has intrigued the U.S. media. The payment which was allegedly made to Stormy Daniels, her real name is Stephanie Clifford, occurred just prior to the 2016 election, writes the Washington Post. Accordingly, the supposed amount paid to Ms. Clifford for not speaking publicly about their relationship totaled $130,000.
Whether or not Mr. Trump will be charged depends largely upon the evidence presented.
The New York Times reports that additional charges might be filed against Mr. Allen H. Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer for Mr. Trump’s organization. While Mr. Trump has been walking free on the outside, Mr. Weisselberg has been serving a five-month sentence ar Rikers Island for “unrelated” tax fraud.
In 2018, Micheal Cohen, Mr. Trump’s former fixer and lawyer, admitted in court to paying two women at Mr. Trump’s direction. While in court, Mr. Cohen said, one of those women was Stormy Daniels, reported The New York Times.
Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty to two campaign finance crimes. He too, served time in jail.
