Social Media is still a relatively new form of communication. Arguably, It has only been around since the late 90’s or the early 2,000’s – it depends upon who you ask. As a new form of communication, the governments of the world have done little to protect the citizens of their respective countries from overzealous and unethical business practices related to its use. Moreover, the people of the world have let their lesser and more base inclinations guide them when using social media. Just ask yourself, how many children have committed suicide because they feel inadequate after being influenced by something they saw on Facebook or Instagram? Or, remember the time your neighbor took your picture or video while you were gardening or riding your bicycle. We don’t need governments to spy on us and access our digital devices, we are undermining ourselves and our independence by our continued misguided use of social media.
